Veterans encouraged to apply

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is holding a job fair for deputy sheriffs and corrections monitoring technicians from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Orleans Justice Center. 2800 Perdido St.

Persons with a military background are encouraged to apply for the open positions, and should bring their discharge paperwork (DD-214 Form) to the job fair.

Other potential deputy recruits are asked to bring a valid, state-issued identification card to the job fair, provided they are at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or G.E.D.

The job fair takes place one month after deputies received a $1,500 pay raise, the second pay raise they received this year. In January, deputies received a $2,000 annual pay increase. Deputies are expected to receive a $3,500 pay raise in January 2019.

More information about the job openings is posted at www.opso.us. Click on the "Careers at OPSO" tab.
